Sebastian Inlet Report
04-02-13 TUESDAY: SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUES, BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, FLOUNDER, JACKS AND SEA TROUT
We have a gorgeous morning at the Sebastian Inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 4 mph, gusting to 11 and there is a light chop on the water.
We have received quite a few photos of a variety of fish including big Blues, Flounder, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, Black Drum and Jacks that have all been landed in the past few days, so it looks like spring fishing has arrived! We should start to see more action as various species start migrating up the coast. We also have received some offshore updates and photos of anglers who had luck with Dolphin, Cobia sand Sea Bass. Inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach reported that yesterday the Spanish Mackerel bite was strong off the north jetty. There weren't many other species that were cooperating, so he started throwing gotcha lures and lost two, but not before he limited out on Macks (15). Mike reported that many anglers reached their limit in just a few hours and many did well. A few undersized Sheepshead were caught and released and one Black Drum was landed by Chuck Fischer of Satellite Beach in the early morning hours. Thanks for the update and photo Mike!
Our first photo today features Sebastian local Troy Vincent with a 20" Black Drum he landed using clams. Troy and his Dad fished the south beach landed 3 Drum and 2 Sheepshead using clams and 1 Flounder using shrimp.
Our second photo today features Chuck Fischer of Satellite Beach with the only Black Drum landed off the north jetty yesterday morning. Chuck was free-lining live shrimp, hoping for a Snook, but ended up with this 22" Drum.
Our third photo is from inlet regular Bill Hillman's and his good Spanish Mackerel catch.

Let see last week it was afternoon bite, this week it was early morning how do they know, I have never caught a fish with a watch on. Finally it is getting warmer and I won’t be one of those anglers that should have been here yesterday. This is the time when we see the bigger Blues and I have heard about a few, cut bait has been at the top of the list. Still not enough of them to use a spoon but then what do I know, Mr. should have been here yesterday. Stay away from the turbid water, look for the blue water and no complaints with all or access points it is not hard
to find clean water. Fish early for the Blues, Mac’s and Jacks they like that cooler water, Pompano and Whiting
are there for the late morning angler, clams and shrimp proffered. still a little cool for the Snook. Should start warming up this month and they will be there I promise. River anglers had a hard week with wind changing directions every hour. Finally the Mac’s and Blues are leaving so you bait is safe, just kidding. Looking for some flat water that was not turbid then the wind changed direction and you were again looking, well the fish that I heard of were in 4/5’ of water, nice Trout and a few Reds but every one mentioned a Flounder or two. Bite time was mid morning, live bait prefered. Bridges still have plentyof Drum, Sheephead, a few big Mac’s, strong tidal movement was the bite time. April, finally we should be in

Things are warming up around the Treasure Coast....finally! Looks like the cool weather has lost its grip on us and we can expect warmer conditions ahead. The windy days will continue for a while yet, but it's been nice to enjoy the warmth of the sun. Water temperatures have moved from the low 60's to the high 60's and should reach into the 70's soon. The trout bite picked up this week on the flats and you can see the activity of the bait schools around the river. It has been a fun filled week for us.

Trout have been in shallower water later in the mornings and willing to hit top water, DOA shrimp or live bait. Some of our best trout bites have been in the afternoons as the sun warms up the flats. We have found our redfish around docks and mangroves this week. CAL grub tails are great for seeking out redfish. Lots of short snook have been under many of the docks around the river. Try a TerrorEyz around the docks. Sheepshead and black drum continue to hold under docks, bridges and channel edges along the river. The inlet has bluefish, mackerel and jacks coming in with the tides. Ladyfish and jacks are all over the place this time of year. Fishing will continue to improve as water temperatures keep warming up. It's time to enjoy the fishing!
April brings lots of sunshine and great fishing. Remember to bring and use lots of suntan lotion while on the water. It's easy to get burned out there and a few minutes to apply some lotion can keep you from having an uncomfortable evening later. Have fun and enjoy the spring fishing!

Inshore fishing was good yesterday with trout and redfish both to the north and south in 3ft to 5ft live shrimp and soft baits are working the best. The snook are starting to show back up on the flats with some reports of some nice fish around Queens Cove top water is the best bet. The south jetty has had some nice flounder the last few days on the incoming tide.
