Sebastian Inlet Report

10-03-13 THURSDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, REDS, SNOOK, SPANISH MACKEREL, ATLANTIC SPADEFISH AND BLUES

We have a real nice breeze at the inlet this morning and it's beautiful. Winds are blowing out of the East at 8 mph, and there is a light chop on the water.

Mike Riccardi of Vero Beach fished the north jetty yesterday and reported that 8 - 10 Reds came over the rails, 3 were in the slot. Mike landed a 38" C/R Red using mojarra before landing a keeper at 25". A few C/R Snook were landed in the 15" - 18" range; live mullet remain the best bait for those. Mangrove Snapper are still abundant and Chuck Fischer of Satellite Beach landed a real nice one that was 16". Spanish Mackerel were hitting live greenies and a few Atlantic Spadefish came over the rails. A lot of Jacks in the 2 - 10 lb. range were landed and a few stragglers of Margate, Blue Runners and Catfish were landed as well.

Our first photo features Dick and Dot Kern of Englewood. Dick and Dot come over and camp at the inlet 4 times a year and love to fish the north jetty. This trip, they brought some of their friends from the Englewood Florida Fishing Club. Dick is holding a large Atlantic Spade and Dot has a Mangrove Snapper. An unidentified friend has a real nice Spanish Mackerel.
Our second photo features Dave Delaware with a nice Mackerel that was 26".
Our last photo today is of Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach with his 25" slot Red.

From Capt. Charlie @ Fishing Center - Ft Pierc

It was a busy week and the weather cooperated most days to keep us out of the rains. It was on the breezy side some days, but nice not to have the rain clouds chasing us around the river. Milder temperatures have arrived for a few days and it's been nice fishing conditions out there. We are in the transition from summer to fall weather. Expect milder temps and the water to cool down some this month. The fall mullet run continues around the Treasure Coast and lots of fish are out there looking for their next meal. October is a great fishing month!

Our trout have been in three to five feet of water on the grass flats. We had excellent success with DOA Bait Busters this week on trout and jacks on the flats. Continue to use the DOA shrimp as well when trout fishing. CAL grub tails found us lots of juvenile snook and redfish and some nice sea trout. Fish around the finger mullet schools and you should find fish lurking near them. Lots of snapper can be found just about anywhere you stop to fish on the river this month. Using the DOA Bait Buster as a top water lure is fantastic during the mullet run. It swims so realistic, that you can even find some finger mullet willing to follow it. Watch for some tarpon around the jetties and turning basin feeding on the mullet. October will prove to be very productive on the Treasure Coast!

10-02-13 WEDNESDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, REDS, SNOOK, BLUES AND SPANISH MACKEREL

It's another beautiful day at the Sebastian Inlet. We have a real nice breeze blowing out of the East-Northeast at 12 mph and there is a light chop on the water.

We have a good Mangrove Snapper bite going on this morning, along with oversized and slot Reds. Snook are busting through bait pods and anglers are doing their best to land one in the slot. Blues and Spanish Mackerel are in the mix and Tarpon are active.

Our first photo today features Sanela and Elvis D. of Orlando. The duo fished the north jetty and landed a pair of matching slot Reds using live bait, just minutes apart.
Bill Keyes of Melbourne is featured in our second photo. Bill fished the north jetty and landed this large C/R Snook around 8:00 p.m. The Snook was released unharmed after the photo.

From Capt. Charlie @ Fishing Center - Ft Pierc

October marks the transition into the fall weather patterns along the Treasure Coast. You can expect temperatures to begin to cool down somewhat into more comfortable days to enjoy the outdoors. Water temperatures will begin to slowly cool off as well. This year has brought us lots of rain and a quiet hurricane season so far. October provides great weather and hungry fish. It's a fantastic month to be fishing!

The fall mullet run will continue to dominate the area as large schools of finger mullet fill the beaches, inlets and rivers of the area. You can expect lots of big fish to be feeding on them both day and night.

Snook fishing will be best during the night hours on the higher ends of the tides. Live finger mullet, croakers and pigfish will be the best live baits to use. DOA Terror Eyz, Bait Busters and feather jigs will be good artificial lures to use for snook. Try around the jetties, turning basin and bridges as well as many of the deeper docks around the river. Lighted docks are especially productive when fishing at night.

Redfish has continued to be a wonderful fishery for us this year. Each year has seen their population increase and many anglers have enjoyed the experience of fishing a large school of reds this year. October will continue to be a productive month for those who seek redfish on the flats. DOA shrimp or CAL grub tails are two of the best choices for redfish along with a variety of live and cut baits. The west shoreline south of Fort Pierce is always a good area when looking for redfish.

The trout bite will be good this month. Get out early with a top water lure for some exciting action on the river. Switch to a DOA shrimp or CAL jerk bait later in the mornings. Harbor Branch, Queen's Cove and Middle Cove are all great areas to fish for trout around the Treasure Coast. Look for some sheephead, black drum and snapper around the bridges, docks and channel edges. The surf will be alive with jacks, snook, bluefish and other predators, which will all be chasing the bait schools along the beach.

Snook season has been in full swing for the past month and anglers are always looking for that slot fish to take home. Beaches, jetties, bridges and mangroves are all popular areas to seek snook. Top water lures, DOA Bait Busters, CAL Airheads and live baits are all great ways to target snook in October. Have fun this month!

It's another great month to fish along the Treasure Coast! Have fun and get out fishing soon!

Join us Tonight at 6 pm with Capt. Mark Nichols of Doa Lures.  He will be on hand to talk about his product for catching snook, trout, redfish, and tarpon.  Come learn from a true professional at Whites Tackle in Stuart! Get here early to reserve your seat and see you tonight!!!

From Whites Tackle - Ft Pierce / Stuart

Inshore the trout fishing has been good back to the north around the power plant on the out going tide. The snook fishing has been good on the flats and around the bridges at night live bait has been the most productive but jigs have been producing to.

10-01-13 TUESDAY: REDS, SNOOK, MANGROVE SNAPPER, BLUEFISH, JACKS, BLUE RUNNERS, TARPON, SPANISH MACKEREL AND A FEW POMPANO

The Sebastian Inlet State Park is open for business and is not affected by the Federal shut-down.

We have a beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the East-Southeast at 3 mph and there is a light chop on the water. Fishing has been picking up and in spite of the issues with the Indian River Lagoon, we've had a good start to fall fishing season.

Reds are biting well, some oversized, but many in the slot of 18" - 27". Most of the Snook have been oversized but an occasional slot fish will find its way to a lucky angler. Mangrove Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Blue Runners, Jacks have been in good supply and we are starting to see Pompano make an appearance. Lots of bait in the water has been attracting the various species. We may be seeing the beginning of the fall mullet run; they have been plentiful along with mojarra and greenies.

Our first angler today is Mike Podzielinski of Melbourne. Mike fished the north jetty and reported lots of mullet swimming around the jetty. Mike landed this nice Red that was oversized and returned to the water.
Our second photo features Robert Cruz of Kissimmee. Robert fished the north jetty who reported lots of Ladyfish and Catfish, but mullet were abundant. Robert landed this slot Red after landing one that was over the slot.

Our last photo today is of one of our lucky inlet regulars, Jose Dore of Palm Bay. Jose landed his 31.5" slot Snook.
