The beach fishing has been good with some nice tarpon around the power plant with a few snook mixed in.Inshore has been good around the sailfish flats with a few reds and snook reported on live bait. The trout bite is still good around midway road on soft baits on the out going tide. The bridges have had some nice snapper and a few snook around them little white baits have produced well.

08-04-15 TUESDAY: A FEW SNAPPER, JACKS, C/R SNOOK AND REDS
We have a gorgeous morning at the inlet. We have Southerly winds at 6 mph and calm waters. In spite of the abundance of bait in the water, fishing is slow. The summer doldrums have set in and we'll just have to wait it out. Mornings, late afternoons and night fishing have been a little more productive as the heat is more tolerable for us and the fish! Currently, Mangrove Snapper are the most active species at the inlet. A nice Red, C/R Snook, big Jack or a Bonito will find its way to one of our inlet anglers but overall, it's sad.

Our angler of the day is Mo of Harmony. Mo fished the south beach on Friday and was lucky enough to land this nice Permit. Mo was soaking a dollar sized blue crab when it got the attention of the approximately 15 lb. Permit. This was Mo's only fish or even bite of the day, but he's not complaining with this sweet catch.

Looking Around Stuart, St Lucie, Ft Pierce Area

As summer continues to bring the daily chance of afternoon rains and thunderstorms, fishing will take the usual second seat to the opening of lobster season. It has been a fairly dry season so far and rain hasn’t been a big factor up to now.  Those dog days of August will continue with hot weather, so take the normal precautions while on the water.Trout and snapper will continue to be the best bite around the river. Top water lures, like the DOA Airhead or Bait Buster, fished early, followed by a DOA shrimp or CAL jerk bait will be productive on the grass flats. Water quality has been very good this year to date, but with all the hot weather the water temps have been higher than normal. Queen’s Cove, Bear Point and Harbor Branch are usually active with trout. Fish shallow early and move to the edges of the flats as the sun warms thing up each day. Look for sand holes on the grass flats. Trout love to sit in them and wait for the tide to bring their food to them. We have enjoyed a good amount of big trout this year on the flats. This month will provide great weather in the mornings for fishing the river.
Head out to the docks along the river for snook, snapper, sheephead and redfish. Some big fish will be hanging under the shady areas around many of the docks along the river from Vero to Stuart. Fish your lures slowly. If you use the tide in your favor, the lure will remain under the dock longer and give you a better chance at hooking up. Snook will be active around the jetties, bridges and docks of the river. Live baits, Terror Eyz, Bait Busters and Monster 3X will all work well for you. As the rainy season continues, try some of the spillways when the water is actively running over them. A root beer Terror Eyz is a great lure around those areas.

Bridges will hold some nice snapper during the month along with some sheephead and black drum. The turning basin should become alive with glass minnows and a variety of predators to feed on them. Again the fresh water runoff will play a part in determining where to fish this month. Everything on the water loves to eat those glass minnows. Fish the edges of the bait pods and you should find some predators hanging out there waiting to feed. The edges of the channel will also be holding lots of snapper around any of the structure or rocks. It’s a great time of year!

Make it a point to keep hydrated and lathered up with sunscreen. Take those precautions early so that the end of your day will be as enjoyable as the beginning. Sunburn or sun poisoning isn’t any fun and can become dangerous to your health. Drink plenty of water or Gatorade. Have fun in August and good fishing!

08-03-15 MONDAY: SLOW BITE....

Winds are blowing out of the South at 10 mph and gusting to 15 this morning. We have a moderate chop on the water with a good chance of showers and thunderstorms today. The water is still chilly.

Fishing remains on the slow side even though a good amount of bait is in the water. Greenies, mojarra and a few silver mullet are swimming around both jetties but the fish just aren't biting well. This time of year is always slow and we aren't surprised by the lack of activity. Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported Snapper, a few oversized Reds and Jacks were biting in small numbers over the weekend. Schools of Bonito and Spanish Mackerel were out of casting range for the jetty anglers but some of the boats were picking up a few.

Our photo today features Adam and Tanner Panzella. The pair used a chunk of Spanish Mackerel to shark fish when this large and slimy Moray Eel picked it up for breakfast. They released the eel right after the photo. The eel's jaws are very strong and can take off a finger if not held properly, nice handling Adam. This unusual catch may be our first Moray Eel on the fishing report, thanks for sharing!

From Whites Tackle - Ft Pierce / Stuart

Inshore there were a few trout reported around Bear point with D.O.A. Cals. There has been a few snook around the inlet and bridges on the out going tide with live bait. The south jetty in Ft.Pierce has had a few snook, flounder, and a few reds around live shrimp has produced the best.
