Sebastian Inlet Report

06-09-15 TUESDAY: LITE BITE!

Calm, clear seas and sunny skies greet Inlet anglers today. Area winds will be southwesterly around 5 mph early, shifting to the southeast in the afternoon and picking up a little speed. There's still a light chop on the Intracoastal and a good chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. NOAA has not posted any advisories.

The bite continues to be slow in spite of the brisk bait sales at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop. Looks like one of those periods when the fish just taunt our anglers and refuse to bite. Last week, some of the Inlet regulars reported a few Lookdowns, a good size Margate and a decent Mackerel were caught.

The snook & snapper bite along the beach has been good with some nice mangroves and a few muttons. The Jetty in Ft Pierce has had a few snook and some flounder around live shrimp have been the bait of choice.Inshore the reds have been around the Round island area to the north with a few trout mixed in first  light has been the best.

SpoolTek Lures: Color Selection.....a great bait early morning (Low Light) or late evening-night beach fishing

Sebastian Inlet

06-08-15 SLOW BITE WEEKEND

Anglers will enjoy calm, clean waters but not necessarily a lot of action at the Inlet today. The bite was slow the entire weekend. Just a few Flounder, Pompano, Sheepshead and Snook got hooked. Tommy Turowski of the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop said the weekend's number one fish though was Mangrove Snapper. The biggest he saw was a 6 to 8 lbs. catch on Saturday. Coming in a distant second were Jacks which Tommy says were tickling the baits mostly in the evening.

If you do make it out today, winds will be out of the SE at 5 to 10 mph with a slight chance of showers. Boaters face just a light chop on the Intracoastal with no NOAA advisories. Those SE winds hang around through most of Tuesday.

The angler of the day is Justin Werner of Vero Beach. Justin caught a beautiful Snook free lining a live shrimp.  The fish was released immediately after the photo.

Inshore the trout bite has been good to the north of north bridge around Queens cove to round island in 3 to 5ft of water. The snook bite has been ok around the inlet with live bait and a few fish starting to show up on the beaches with a few tarpon mixed in.

Looking Around - Jupiter

I had a chance to fish Jupiter Inlet this weekend and the "BIG Grovers are there. A few 5-6lbs have been caught, but they know every Rock, Ledge and Cut Off at the inlet.... I got cut off 4 times  seeing 3 of the fish before they decided to take a turn and cut me off. The trick is to fish them when there is a slack tide, then they will come out from the rocks to find their next meal and you'll have a better chance to pull them up. The bait I've been using has been about a 3-4 inch mojarra, and my reel's Drag "LOCKED DOWN".. I prefer fishing snapper at night but with all the rocks at the inlet I wouldn't stand a chance....

Looking Around - Ft Pierce Area

INSHORE - Everything should start to heat up in June including the weather. The best inshore action should be from first light until about 9am and from 6pm until dark. During these hours try a top water bait like a Zara Spook, Chug Bug and for the anglers that like to throw soft plastic baits try a D.O.A. Bait Buster. For the rest of you that like live bait try a pigfish, mullet, shrimp or a crab. This method will catch a snook, trout, redfish and lots of big jacks. Try places like Harbor Branch, Round Island or Queen's Cove to the north and to the south you can try Bear Point, Herman's Bay or the docks along South Indian River Drive. Just remember that June 1st snook season closed and it catch and release only.

The snapper fishing should also be good around the bridges and the channel edges. A live shrimp fished on a #2 hook, a 20# fluorocarbon leader and a 1/2 to 1oz. lead should work just fine. The tarpon should be here in full force in the Ft. Pierce Inlet, the Moorings and around the Big Mud Creek area. Try using a live mullet.
