08-17-15 MONDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, REDS, C/R SNOOK, JACKS AND BLUE RUNNERS
It's another beautiful morning at the Sebastian Inlet. Winds are moving out of the Southeast at 3 mph, gusting to 4 and there is a light chop on the water. NOAA is calling for a chance of rain throughout the day today. Currently, we have some clouds above the inlet but the cloud cover is welcomed by our jetty anglers.
Mangrove Snapper continue to dominate the catches at the inlet. Small shrimp, mojarra and greenies on light tackle will do the trick for the tasty fish. Over the weekend Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported the bite was good on Sunday. Once again, Mangrove Snapper were the best bet along with Jacks, Blue Runners, slot and oversized Reds and C/R Snook. Tommy said the incoming tide is very clean but the outgoing has become murky.
Our angler of the day is Kurush Akbari of Palm Bay. Kurush landed this huge C/R Snook using a pinfish Sunday evening. Kurush had waited patiently for a good bite the entire night. With one bait left, his last cast produced this big, gorgeous C/R Snook. Kurush released the fish unharmed right after the photo.
Inshore over the weekend was good with some nice trout and reds around midway road to walton road with soft baits on the outgoing tide. The snapper bite around the bridges has been good with a few nice 4 to 5lbs reported over the weekend live shrimp has been the best. The inlet has had some jacks, snook.and tarpon around with the mullet starting to show up.
08-14-15 FRIDAY: TGIF! SNAPPER ARE BITING
There's not much wind blowing this morning which makes anglers prime targets for no see 'ums. Winds are blowing out of the North at 3 mph, gusting to 4 and the water is calm. The water is very clean and lots of marine life can be seen from the north jetty. Manatees, rays, fish and turtles are all swimming around the jetties.
Inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach fished the north jetty again yesterday morning and confirmed Chuck Irwin's assessment of a slow bite. Snapper were biting but it took a lot longer to get his limit of five. Many shorts came over the rails and were returned. This morning the Mangrove Snapper bite was good between 6:00 - 7:00 and continued at a slower pace throughout the morning. Several inlet regulars limited out and were off the jetty by 8:00 a.m. One huge bull Red came over the rails this morning, it was around 38". The big breeder was returned to the water and swam away healthy.
Our angler of the day is Brandon Cintron of Oviedo. Brandon was using shrimp to land this big, bull Red. He landed the big fish between 7:00 - 7:30 and 15 minutes later, landed a 25" slot Red. Brandon didn't take the time to measure the big Red as he wanted to get it back into the water as soon as possible. Mangrove Snapper were hitting consistently on greenies all day.
It has continued to be in the 90's around the Treasure Coast this week. We should start seeing some relief soon as fall approaches and things get milder for us. It certainly will be a welcome relief from this long hot summer! Be aware of afternoon storms that can dampen things for you. Enjoy the great fishing action!
Glass minnows have been filling the river and bringing lots of action for anglers. The turning basin has been active with mackerel, jacks, ladyfish and other hungry fish chasing them. Look for trout around the bait schools on the grass flats. Top water lures or DOA shrimp work well this time of year. The trout bite has picked up lately with the bait schools around.

Redfish can be found around docks and mangroves this time of year. Snook season opens in September and you can be sure that anglers will be targeting them! Make sure you check your licenses and snook permit. Watch for the mullet run to begin soon and that will have the area in a feeding frenzy as they will the river. It's a great time of year to enjoy fishing our area.
Work top water lures early or late in the day and switch to shallow running baits, like Monster 3X-Xswims, CAL jerk baits or Mirrolure mirrodine, to get your action during the day. The grass flats are productive this time of year. When fishing around the inlet for mackerel and other species, use small shiny lures for your best results. Don't forget to take the kids and grandkids out for an adventure soon! The next Treasure Coast Caster tournament is coming up soon. If your kids love to fish, contact Cammie Ward for information on a fun and exciting time for the kids. 08-13-15 THURSDAY: SLOW ACTION
It's another lovely, steamy summer morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the West-Southwest at 4 mph, gusting to 5 and the water is clean and calm. NOAA is calling for chance showers this morning and probable showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Keep it in mind if you head to the inlet today.
We received an update from Chuck Irwin of Sebastian who is fishing near-shore, south of the inlet this morning. Not much has been hitting this morning; the bite has dropped off from yesterday. Chuck had friends that fished near-shore yesterday who reported lots of Tarpon busting up schools of mullet and Jacks, Blues, Spanish Mackerel and schools of Bonito were in play as well. They were following glass minnows and schools of mullet. Thanks for the update Chuck, hope the bite picks up!
Our photo today features Scott, Kai and Greg all of Melbourne with a nice haul of Mangrove Snapper they landed. The trio fished both incoming and outgoing tides and went home one shy of their limit. They took those Snapper home, cooked them up and had an enormous fish dinner.
