Sebastian Inlet Report

09-07-12 FRIDAY: TGIF! SNOOK, REDS, JACKS, MANGROVE SNAPPER AND LADYFISH

It's another beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 4 mph and there is a light ripple on the water on the north side. The outgoing tide always produces standing waves in the inlet, so the inlet looks a little rough but it will calm down on the incoming tide. We have quite a few surfers in the water taking advantage of a nice swell this morning, as always; use caution when casting into the surfing area.

Fishing has really picked up, and the water temperature is getting back to normal, it's in the low 80's. We're starting to see schools of finger mullet which could mean the start of the fall mullet run! When that happens, the fishing gets even better. We've had slot sized and oversized Snook and Reds, Mangrove Snapper, Jacks and Ladyfish coming over the rails of the jetties. For a couple of days last week, we had some really nice Mutton Snapper, but they've disappeared, along with the Bonito. Desmond of Melbourne wrote in and said he was on the north jetty when those big Muttons were being landed and most were over the 16". Anglers were using live and dead mojarra on the bottom, but thrown out away from the pilings. Desmond reported Slot Reds and plenty of Jacks.
Our first photo today is courtesy of Arden Romanillos, who took the photo of Tyler Dennis of Vero Beach. Tyler landed this C/R 34" Redfish.

The next is of Steve Chandler who landed this real nice Flounder off the north jetty  using live mojarra.
