Sebastian Inlet Report

04-03-17 MONDAY: BLUES, SNOOK, SHEEPSHEAD, MACKEREL, REDS AND JACKS

We have a windy morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 13 mph, gusting to 15 and there is a moderate chop on the water. We have a slight chance of showers this afternoon. NOAA is calling for small craft to exercise caution through this afternoon and has a small craft advisory in effect from this afternoon through Tuesday morning.
The weekend bite was good according to Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop. Big Blues dominated the catches once again. Snook and Sheepshead were active as well and there were a few Spanish Mackerel that came over the rails.
Our angler of the day is Steve Hilmy of Floridana Beach. Steve is a retired music professor who moved here last summer from D.C. He is till composing but he tries to get out and surf fish as much as possible! He landed his slot Snook just before sunrise using a 1 ounce white bucktail. This nice fish was just under 30".

FWC Information: FWC is collecting feedback on Florida's flounder, sheepshead and tripletail fisheries. If you fish for any of these three species, they would like to know more about: Whether you actively target them or if you catch them while targeting other species, how you fish for them (hook-and-line, etc.), if those fisheries are seasonal in your area, when and where you target them, thoughts on how these fisheries are doing, compared to the past and/or compared to other fisheries and your thoughts on current management of these species

Scouting Around Palm Beach /Martin County Area

INSHORE:

Along the beaches in Jensen, the pompano fishing has been good. A few anglers fishing early morning and early evening and catching the mid-to-high incoming tide have reported catching their limits of six fish using clams, sand fleas and Fishbites.
In the St. Lucie River fishing for trout along the dock and bridge lights has been excellent. Many anglers flipping shrimp in those areas looking for snook are taking in trout instead.
Fishing for sheepshead has also been great in the river as well.
In Jupiter, the bluefish action has been excellent. Along the beaches off Blowing Rocks and in the Loxahatchee River, anglers are taking fish in the 12- to 15-pound range.
Fishing for snook has been good off of the jetty using croaker as bait.
The pompano fishing has been good off of Jupiter Island with some anglers catching their limit.
Like offshore, the inshore action in the Boynton Beach area has been less than lackluster with little to no action being reported off the beaches, the Boynton Inlet Jetty and the bridges.

LAKE OKEECHOBEE:

The bass are biting! Guides are reporting catching 30, and in some cases up to 40, in one day.
Though not quite on par with fishing live bait, the artificial bite has picked up considerably and is definitely worth trying.

Sebastian Inlet Report

03-29-17 WEDNESDAY: BLUES, SNOOK, SHEEPSHEAD AND BLACK DRUM

We have another beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the South-Southwest at 2 mph, gusting to 4 and there is a light chop on the water. Winds will shift to the East late this afternoon. There are no NOAA advisories this morning.

The Bluefish bite is still strong according to Sarah Sams at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop. FWC regulations state that the limit on Blues is 10 fish per day, per person. They must be 12" to the fork, which has not been a problem as there have been some real monsters coming over the rails! Snook, Sheepshead and a few Black Drum round out the mix. We have a lot of weeds in the water and on the beaches, other than that it would be a real nice day to get out and do some surf fishing.

From The Crew @ Whites Tackle - Ft Pierce / Stuart

Inshore has been great the last few days with some nice snook on the flats and a few nice trout around to. The docks to the south around Midway road have been good with soft baits and top water around first light. The reds have been around Queens cove with a few trout mixed in to. The sailfish flats to the south have had a few reds and some pompano here and there still. The snook bite at night has been ok with a few fish around the bridges on live bait.

Sebastian Inlet Report

03-28-17 TUESDAY: BLUES AND SNOOK

We have a beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the South-Southeast at 3 mph, gusting to 6 and there is a light chop on the water. Winds will pick up a little this afternoon. There are no NOAA advisories this morning.

Sarah Sams at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reports that Snook are biting on shrimp this morning, yesterday the outgoing tide produced one slot fish, the rest were catch and release. Bluefish remain the most prevalent species; some nice, big fish have been coming over the rails. If you land and Bluefish and do not want it, please return it to the water, do not leave it on the deck of the jetty. Our resources are not unlimited and nobody wants to pick up after you.

Our photo today features Ryan Wood. Ryan landed his personal best Bluefish. He was throwing a silver spoon from the south jetty in less than desirable conditions; most of us would never have attempted it! Ryan filmed the catch, go to YouTube and plug in RWood Outdoors to see it. Ryan didn't get any measurements on the fish but it was a real beast.

From Todd /Trey and Paul @ Juno Bait -Juno Beach

INSHORE:  Snook fishing will once again be the main game in town on the inshore side of things.  Fair number of snook hanging around the bridges at night and under docks and along seawalls during the day.  Look for outgoing tide to produce best for the snook.  Live shrimp, medium size swimsuits, and flair hawk jigs are all good choices for the snook currently.  She big jacks cruising around inshore.  Look for them to make themselves noticeable as they blast mullet along seawalls.  Nothing like watching a twenty pound jack crush a zara spook along a seawall!  Other inshore action remains a bit spotty.

SURF/PIER:  The pompano reports improved again this week, with reports coming in up and down the line.  The fish seem to be spread out, with reports coming from both north and south of Jupiter Inlet.

The big bluefish are still hanging out north of Jupiter Inlet.  Look for the bluefish to readily strike large popping plugs or heavy spoons during lower light periods of the day.  Spanish mackerel have been scattered along the beach as well.  The blacktip sharks continue to hang around in good numbers.  Overall good surf fishing...just looks like tough fishing conditions this weekend.

Scouting Around Sebastian Inlet

Migrating Bluefish have dominated the catches at the Sebastian Inlet this week. Some real nice fish in the 10 lb. range have come over the rails of the jetties. Blues aren't picky eaters and will hit just about anything thrown at them. A few Spanish Mackerel are in the mix as well and they like to zip around cutting lines with their sharp teeth, like the Bluefish. Break out the bling for those two species, silver and gold spoons work well. Use a wire leader to prevent breakoffs. Sheepshead, Black Drum, Jacks, a few Reds and Snook have been active but not in huge numbers.
Our angler is 15 year old John Corriveau of Winter Haven. John was visiting while on spring break from Summerlin Academy in Bartow. John was using a two ounce silver spoon to land his big Bluefish.
