03-11-14 SHEEPSHEAD, SNOOK, REDS, POMPANO, SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUES AND SMALL FLOUNDER
We have another glorious morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 5 mph, there is a moderate chop on the water, the temperature should rise to the mid to high 70's, skies are blue and the fish are biting! Get out there and wet a line, this is a great time of year to fish in Florida!
We've had the usual cast of characters and a few stragglers that we don't see regularly, like the Redtail Parrotfish. We are seeing more Snook and Redfish activity, keepers, under and oversized fish. Sheepshead have been plentiful. We've been seeing Pompano, Black Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Blues, Jacks and small Flounder. Most fish are taking shrimp right now, but the Macks tend to go for lures, gotcha's and silver spoons work well for those and for Blues, although Blues will take just about any kind of bait, live or artificial.
Our first photo today features Loren Waters of St. Cloud. Loren and her boyfriend Cody Rockwell, also of St. Cloud fished the south beach this past weekend. Cody reported the beaches were uncrowded and the bite was good. Loren landed a C/R Snook and Cody landed a Sheepshead that Loren poses with in photo one. Both fish were released unharmed, back to the deep blue sea.

Photo 3 features inlet regular James Triplett of Orlando. James landed this sweet, 29" Slot Snook off the north jetty .
Sheepshead have been taking live shrimp, but normally any crustacean will do the trick, they love sand fleas, crabs and clams too. They aren't huge on lures, unless you use a jig tipped with shrimp, etc. They are fast and sneaky and will take the bait right off your hook and swim away happy and fed! Photo 4 is of Trina Perone of Inverness who fished the north jetty and landed this real nice Sheepshead.
Photo 5 is of Ponce Perone with an oversized C/R Red he landed .
Photo 6 is of Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach with a Pompano and several Whiting he landed off the north side and Dana Li of Orlando with a two of four Pompano she landed as well.
Our 7th photo features Justin Werner of Palm Bay. We usually only see Justin during Snook season and there's a reason for that. He seems to do pretty well with them. Justin landed a 31.5" Friday, Feb. 28th, landed this one in the photo which was 29" and got another keeper which was 31.5"! Three slot Snook in three days, great catches Justin!
Our last photo was sent in by Scott Ward of Indialantic. Scott landed the fat, 12" Redtail Parrotfish in photo 8 while fishing for Sheepshead from the T-Dock. The Parrotfish grabbed a live sand flea. Scott photographed the fish and released it immediately.
