Sebastian Inlet Report

12-10-14 WEDNESDAY: BLUES, BLACK DRUM, REDS, SNOOK, SHEEPSHEAD AND A FEW FLOUNDER

It's time for the Floridians to break out the parkas! It's pretty chilly out on the jetties this morning, temperatures are in the low 50's but with the wind chill, it feels like the high 40's. Winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 10 mph, gusting to 15. There is a small craft advisory in effect through this afternoon and a small craft advisory in effect for hazardous seas through Thursday morning. From the web cam we can see a couple of surfers surfing at third peak this morning, in full wet suits we hope!

Blues have dominated the catches at the inlet; they aren't choosy and will hit pretty much anything. Cut bait works as well as silver spoons. Black Drum are hitting dead shrimp and clams, they love those stinky baits. A few mid-sized Flounder are being landed in the inlet, Sheepshead can be found around the pilings of the north jetty, from the catwalks or any type of structure. Sheepshead are crustacean fans and will take shrimp, clams, sand fleas and small crabs and that is what gives them their delicious flavor. Snook are still biting but the season is coming to a close on Monday. Sunday will be the last day to get out and catch one for the table (28" - 32" slot) until the season reopens February 1st. Reds are active as well.

Our first photo today features Rob Moore of Orlando. Every Flounder season, Rob regularly makes the trip over to try to get some of his favorite fish. Rob fished the south side on Friday and pulled in this nice 6 pounder. Rob also landed two nice Sea Trout and a slot Red. Rob reported a lot of grass in the water which made fishing difficult, but it sounds like he had a pretty good day in spite of it!

Sally Baughman of WY sent in our second photo. Sally took the photo of Donnie Nguyen of Palm Bay who landed this undersized C/R Snook Saturday morning. Sally reported lots of Snook were landed and lost; many came over the rails with a handful of slot fish in the mix.
