Beach Fishing With Paul Sperco Palm Beach/Martin County Area

Anyone who has put some time in this week on South Hutchinson Island fishing the surf for pompano is probably asking, “where did they go ?” We had a pretty darn good January for the most part until the winds started to kick up last weekend but this week the surf laid down and the water cleaned up on the south end of the island . Unfortunately no one let the pompano in on it . 1 here, 2 there's, a couple of blue runners, jacks, and bonefish were the normal catch results all this week. Paul Jr and I fished the last few days and only managed a few pompano and they bit right after daybreak . The beaches up near Fort Pierce have had dirty water all week, so we only fished from Normandy south . Today we decided to try the River and the “alternative “ spot and actually caught some nice pompano. Catching them on jigs is a ball using a 3500 Penn Spin

fisher , a 7 foot light action Penn Batallion rod, and 15 lb braid . There are fish in the river . Fishing this weekend is going to be a challenge as we are forecast to get a big wind and rain event . This front will hopefully push those mackerel and pompano down our way as they have been in the Vero Beach area all week. I hope everyone has a great weekend and stay dry .
