Sebastian Inlet Report
09-16-15 WEDNESDAY: SNAPPER, JACKS, SNOOK AND REDS
We have a blustery morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Northeast at 17 mph, gusting to 22 and there is a pretty good chop on the water. We have cloudy skies and a chance of rain throughout the day today. Many times these kinds of conditions will invigorate the bite, throw on some rain gear and head to the inlet!
Schools of mullet are starting to swim around the inlet, beaches and on the flats. It looks like the beginning of the fall mullet run, three words we love to hear. You can bet that the Snook and Reds will be following those schools particularly in the early morning and evening hours. We're still seeing quite a few Mangrove Snapper and even a few Muttons come over the rails. Large and medium sized Jacks and straggler species are active as well.
Our photo is courtesy of Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach. Our angler of the day is inlet regular Tommy Ngo of Melbourne. Tommy landed his gorgeous 19" Mangrove Snapper on Monday using live shrimp. Mike reported live shrimp seemed to be the bait of choice for Snapper that day. One oversized Snook came over the rails and Mike landed a 31" C/R Red.

INSHORE
The snook fishing has been tricky on the beaches of the Treasure Coast this week because of the wind. On calmer days, though, there are plenty of them around, along with tarpon. The best bite is early in the morning.
Whiting and croaker are there throughout the day.
In the Indian River, anglers are catching snook around the bridges, and are reporting good numbers of trout and redfish on the east side near the powerplant.
Snook are tarpon are showing up on the beaches of Jupiter when there’s bait around. Spanish mackerel and bluefish are also in the mix – they’re coming from the north, chasing bait. There are good numbers of snook in the Jupiter Inlet as well.
The bridges of the Intracoastal Waterway are holding good numbers of snook and tarpon. The early-morning bite is good, but the best action is in the evening.
Snook and jacks have been reported in the surf along Palm Beach, and are also being caught in the Lake Worth Inlet. You can always find snook around bridges and dock lights (at night) in the Intracoastal throughout central and southern Palm Beach County.
Small snapper can also be caught around structure at night.
There are bait schools around the Boynton Beach Inlet, which has attracted plenty of snook, tarpon, snapper and permit – all of which are being caught around the jetty. Tarpon are also rolling through the channels of the Intracoastal in this area.
FRESHWATER
The fishing is really picking up on Lake Okeechobee. The best action is still early in the morning, and if you’re on the water at first light, you can catch a good number of fish. There are large bass being caught as well, and there were a few reports of 7- and 8-pounders this week.
Bass are moving out toward the outside edge and grass, so you can have plenty of success there. The rim canal has also been extremely productive.
While anglers are catching bass with artificial lures, live shiners are still the bait of choice at this time.

09-15-15 TUESDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, REDS, SNOOK, JACKS AND LOOKDOWNS
Winds are blowing out of the Northeast at 12 mph this morning and gusting to 14. Seas are 3 - 4' with a dominate period of 5 seconds. NOAA is calling for the wind to increase later this afternoon. Small craft should exercise caution. Waters are choppy on the ICW as well.
The bite is improving. We are still seeing a lot of Mangrove Snapper that have preferred live shrimp lately. Large pods of finger mullet are being blown out by hungry schools of Snook. Reds, mostly oversized are coming over the rails along with Jacks, straggler Lookdowns and an occasional Mutton Snapper.

Scouting Around - Jensen/Ft Pierce Area
INSHORE - As the weather starts to cool off some you can look for the fishing to get better. The schools of bait fish should be coming in the Ft. Pierce Inlet with plenty of action not far behind. The snook bite in the Ft. Pierce Inlet should be good for anglers using live baits like greenies and mullet and fishing them on the bottom at places like Judy Rock or the cleaning station and fish on the out going tides. Also, in the Ft. Pierce Inlet the Spanish mackerel and bluefish will be showing up and they will take anything shinny. Look for the trout and redfish in the deeper holes and channels around the flats. They will be taking a live shrimp fished under a popping cork and fish in 5 to 7 feet of water when the water starts to cool down. The local bridges should be holding some nice snapper, sheepshead and black drum. Try fishing a live shrimp on a #2 hook and a 1/2 to 1oz. weight.
Around the South Jetty there should be some flounder on the beach side. A large live shrimp or mud minnows fished on a 1/8 or 1/4oz. troll-rite hook. In the surf the whiting & pompano bite should improve later in the month. Shrimp, clams or sandfleas will all be a good choice.

The Spanish and bluefish have been on the beach in the bait schools if you are looking for something fun to catch.Inshore the report was a little slow for snook around the inlet and bridges but the trout bite was good to the north around Queens Cove to Harbor Branch to the south Bear point has been good to with live and soft baits. The bridges have had a few nice snapper around on the incoming tide with white baits and live shrimp.
