Sebastian Inlet Report

08-09-13 FRIDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, JACKS, REDS, BONITO AND C/R SNOOK

Winds are blowing out of the East-Southeast at 7 mph and there is a moderate chop on the water. The breeze is keeping things cooler out on the jetties, but the change in direction has the water kicked up and on the murky side this morning. Over all, the water seems to be clearing up on the outgoing tide and has been beautiful on the incoming.

Schools of Mangrove Snapper, Jacks, Bonito, a few Reds, C/R Snook and a Margate to two have found their way to our inlet anglers this week. Fishing is usually slow this time of year, but this week we've seen a bit more activity.

Our photos today are courtesy of inlet regular Trevor Clarcq. Trevor and his friends Shawn Farnham and Justin Kruk took their kayaks out on  around 7:00 a.m. First, they fished the beach south of the inlet and landed some Jacks up to 10 lbs. As the afternoon progressed, they headed out about 1 - 2 miles offshore in search of porgie pods and schools of Bonito. The Bonito were scattered around in big numbers, but were skittish and moving quickly! The young men managed to land a few, but hooked up with many. They also found some Kingfish busting up bait pods and had one hook up on a light spinning rod that burned off 200 yards of line before biting through the leader!
Photo one is of Trevor Clarcq with one of his Bonito and photo two is of Shawn Farnham with one of his Bonito.
